• In the Cowrie shell family, there is a marine snail species called Lyncina aurantium, commonly know as the Golden Cowrie. It is physically recognised for it's brilliant orange shell and is rare and reclusive, choose to hide under rocks and between reefs. Traditionally, it was worn by Fijian rulers as a symbol of status and rank, it is also used by other South Pacific Islands as currency and religious purposes. Due to habitat loss and over harvesting, it has become one of the hardest shells to find and highly prized by collectors. Hence our handcrafted jewellery is a symbolic representation of the unique cultural significance and rich history of our material and designs.

  • To clean, soak jewellery in a few cups of warm water with a couple drops of mild (non-detergent) soap.

Use a soft microfibre cloth to gently polish, but don’t grease the jewellery too much or the gold will become loose.

Organic materials, such as shell money are especially sensitive to beauty products such as perfumes, lotions, makeup and hairspray – always apply products prior to putting on your jewellery.

If shell money begins to dull overtime, rub a small amount of coconut oil into the beads.

Store jewellery in Golden Cowrie pouch away from sunlight at a moderate temperature.
